A Letter to Bajan Santa - From a Motorsport Fan -

© Photo-Justbajan. com Dear Santa, I know it’s late but I had to make sure my list was just right. This isn’t your typical Christmas wishlist: no jewelry or cologne or gaming consoles. Even better, you don’t have to feel pressured to deliver these things by Christmas morning-once we get them in 2026. What’s on this list? Hear me out, I’ve thought it through.

You see, on this 166 square mile island, we’re motorsport mad. Drags, circuit racing , offroading, rallying. We love it all. With that in mind, there are some things we’d like to see next year. I wouldn’t say the list is long…let’s call it through. Buckle up, Saint Nick.

First off, a dedicated and fully prepped quarter mile drag strip would be nice. Drag racing needs to be given a bigger push here and that strip would definitely ensure for that step to be taken. We really shouldn’t have those monster R35 GTRs sitting down and not getting a proper workout. Beyond that, who wouldn’t want to see some Saturday night grudge racing?

The drift scene is growing and that’s lovely to see. After all, sideways is the way. Could we see some more drift agents come out? A large Caribbean drift competition wouldn’t be a far stretch either. If you want to throw in a round of Formula Drift with local drivers being included, by all means, don’t threaten us with a good time.

Mud Dogs can’t be left out. Sure there’s lots of land for them to roam. Maybe some more challenging courses? Oh! Maybe they could have their own Mud Dogs drag event but…on mud! Something similar to what happens over in the UAE. You could also leave 4 monster trucks for club members to let loose in.

Circuit racing needs a revival. Yeah, we have the circuit but we need the racers and clubs to see past their egos and get back to what the clubs were instituted for…racing! While we’re on the topic of the circuit: upgrade Bushy Park from F3 to F2. Oh! How about some international events/participants to go along with it. I don’t think that’s too much, just something slight.

Last but not least…rallying! Santa, pull this off and we’ll never ever come close to being on the naughty list ever again. Ahem. We need more stages. Wait! New, smooth stages to be precise. New challenges for the drivers, new vantage points for spectators and action spots for media. While you’re at it, could we get the old stages paved too? For a bit of razzle dazzle, could we have one big monster stage? Where? Glad you asked. Starting just east of Brighton Plantation, through the cut rock, through Waverley Cot, Lower Brighton, passing Frenches all up to Halton where they’d make the left, through Featherbed Lane , left at the top of Kendal straight through the Duck Pond onto Woodland  turn right through Cherry Grove, left at the top of Ashford and finishing just short of Colleton Plantation. Take that route with your sleigh and tell me that isn’t  a banger.

We don’t mind the R5 class at all and we’d dearly love to see some more WRCs. With that being said…we need more project cars. We want engine swaps, R5 hunters and drift missiles. We also wouldn’t mind seeing a 1st Gen Yaris WRC as Car 0 for Rally Barbados. We need a third Starlet to reunite the Hasselgren Orchestra. Whether they are boosted or screaming N/A SM2 machines, get them here! Please.

The legends of motorsport lore need to be back out on the stages. Neil Armstrong stuck his toe in for King of The Hill but we need to get that itch turned into a full body rash. Cliff Roett is sorely missed. So too are Jason Parkinson, Alex Whitehead, Dirk Grey, Sammy Cumberbatch and Ralph White. There’s also the rodent from the north of the island that drives people into a frenzy once he shows up. No, not Surf Rat…Trevor “Electric Micey” Manning. Someone out there has an Evo put down that needs some spice in its life, I’m sure. Make it happen.

So that’s it, then. I don’t think any of the requests were unreasonable or impossible for that matter. We’ve been good(ish) all year and we deserve nice things! I look forward to checking these items off my list next year. Feel free to add anything you think we’d like, you know, Andy Burton in his Peugeot Cosworth, Kalle Rovanpera, Top Fuel dragsters. From all of us at Red265 to all of you, Merry Christmas!
