MAYERS READY FOR THE 2024 SEASON WITH A NEW LOOK AND NEW PERSPECTIVE.

Often rivaling for fastest Two Wheel Drive (2WD) honors and dare we say, podiums from time to time, fresh out of the M&M stable is Barry Mayers in his Honda Powered Ford Fiesta with a brand new look and perspective on rallying. We had a chat with Barry on the new look and his approach for this motorsport season.

In motorsport a new look often means news sponsors, Barry gave us some background on this change. “The new sponsors this year are Kooyman and Packaging Center. We had approach Kooyman a while back, but this year they thankfully signed onboard. We (Up Beat & Surf Shak) currently buy all our store bags from Packaging Center and they approached us to get involved in rallying this year. Of course we still have our other long standing sponsors Chefette, Frosteez, Hankook and Sign Depot who continue to support our team”.

Your motorsport season itinerary is usually saved for the larger events, will we see you doing more events in 2024? “I did not get much competition coming on to the end of last year, so the truth is I am itching to get in the car”

2WD honors, is this the pinnacle result for you going into this motorsport season? “The goal as usual is 2WD and fighting with Roger, but also trying to take a little less stressful approach. I found last year I was getting bother by so many aspects of each rally that it started to take the fun out of it, so I am trying to gain that fun back”

What is the plan of attack for tomorrow's MCBI “Spring Blaze” double header event? “Tomorrow really is just a shake down of the car, not going out there with any goals, mainly to have fun and shake the car down.”

Overall its great to see Barry ready to compete and with two new sponsors who are new to the motor sport community as well. It truly shows the growth of motorsport in our country as it continues to be one of the biggest spectator sports.
